You're busy enough with making what you make.
Let us handle all aspects of capturing your story on the screen.

To suit your budget and release needs, we shoot programs of any length, on any appropriate medium, from DVCam to full HDTV, or 16mm or 35mm film if you are hoping for theatrical release.

Our pre-planning, designed to maximise your strengths and points of difference, will result in coverage of aspects you may have overlooked, but give the full picture of the making of something very special. The added interest of these insights means a wider appeal to potential audiences.

Research and pre-planning

For design and arts programs and coverage of arts events (dance, music and theatrical performances etc.) perceptive research and intelligent pre-planning are particularly imperative. We have the skills and the experience.

Unlike the haphazard, on-the-fly approach used by some other companies, at Making of Movies we believe in prior research and rigorous pre-planning to ensure the best material and to give you the best value.

Pre-scheduling

With access to your timeline, we can enter the real pre-production phase with a draft production schedule so you know when and where to expect us.

We try to anticipate your almost inevitable delays and schedule changes, building in options to cover most contingencies.

Pre-budgeting

If you have already allocated a budget line to screen material, we can usually tailor our shoot to fit. Making of Movies always gives you an indication of how much we can cover and what end products it is practical to deliver.

If screen needs have not been anticipated in your overall budget, we can quickly give you a reasonable estimate of costs involved. When the estimate meets your approval we give you a detailed, firm quote. The publicity opportunities and great record for future work make the investment in a Making of Movies project worthwhile very quickly. Our work sells.

Pre-scripting

For greatest efficiency and creative potential, we prefer to write a documentary-style outline script for your production.

From our practical experience of interviewing for all media, we can also pre-script appropriate question prompts to be used in interviews.

On approval, these two documents provide a firm, but flexible, basis for our shoot, along with the production schedule that you have OK'd.

Quality interview techniques

Pre-scripted (and pre-approved) question prompts, designed to elicit stand-alone responses, provide a firm basis for good interviews.

Our documentary experience tells us communicating to an audience effectively needs pre-planned interview eye-lines, intelligent questions (and prompting) and the sort of coverage that ensures smooth editing to eliminate the inevitable "ums" and "ers" without distracting jump-cuts that lower production value and irritate viewers.

We prefer to use more than one camera - to ensure good coverage with high quality results possible with greater editing flexibility and shot choice.

Thorough coverage, combined with sympathetic interviewing skills, ensures that everyone comes over well on screen.

Throughout your shoot

  • We are independent of your facilities – even to using our own heavy-duty battery lighting when desirable.
  • We are relatively inconspicuous – we try to keep a low profile during the shoot.
  • We are flexible, which means we aren't going to add any drama when things have to change from your end.
  • We are always affable and won't ruffle the feathers of sensitive 'cast' and your busy team.
  • Pre-briefing by you and your team guarantees our sound and vision is in the style and mood you want – as well as 100% appropriate to your audience.
  • Consultation with your publicists ensures effective use of our material for promotional opportunities - or maybe we can use our contacts.
  • Cooperation with your management and production people gains you the best use of your available budget.

We've got you covered – through every aspect

Thinking ahead and thorough planning – plus the ability to make use of the unpredicted – allow us to seamlessly integrate diverse material into the end product. We can even help you with distribution and exhibition of the programs we make for you.
